Former U.S. Sailor Charged So Russian Spy

Washington - A former U.S. sailor thought that he was selling secrets to the Russian submarine tracking - but apparently people are dealing with is an undercover FBI agent. Currently Robert Patrick Hoffman threatened sentenced to life imprisonment for espionage trial cases.


A federal high council on Thursday indicted Hoffman (39), because it "seeks to provide confidential information to the people who he believed was the representative of the Russian Federation," the U.S. Justice Department said.


Hoffman, who is a veteran of the U.S. Navy for 20 years, holding a security clearance when he was in the navy, so that gave him access to confidential data.


On October 21, Hoffman allegedly trying to sell the "secret information that reveals methods to track submarines United States," it said in the indictment read.


He believes that "the information is used to harm the United States" and to gain Russia, further charges.


However, Hoffman gave information to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), who conducted undercover operations.


Department of Justice said that the indictment was "not accusing Russian Federation offense under U.S. laws in this case."
