Former
New Mexico governor Bill Richardson and chairman of Google Eric Schmidt
is scheduled to lead North Korea next week in a "private humanitarian
mission," said the office of Richardson on Saturday.
Richardson, a powerful negotiator who understands North Korea, will hold a press conference at the airport in Beijing on Thursday, the office said in a statement, adding that no journalists would accompany the delegation.
U.S. State Department voiced concern about the trip, saying it was done in a moment that was not right after the widely criticized Pyongyang's rocket launch last month.
Richardson, a former U.S. ambassador to the UN, said the trip was related to the recent arrest of North Korea in the past year and plans to sue a U.S. citizen of Korean descent.
The parties will contribute to accompany the two men are longtime colleague aide Richardson in North Korea, KA "Tony" Namkung, and Jared Cohen, director of Google Ideas, an agency owned by Internet giant's strategy are located in California, and some of the staff, the statement said.
A spokesman for both the Richardson and Schmidt did not respond to requests from AFP for details on that trip.
