U.S. Patriot Missiles Arrive in Turkey

Placement of U.S. Patriot missiles in Turkey began on Saturday to help the country defend itself against all threats from its neighbors Syria hit by deadly civil role that has lasted 21 months.


"The deployment of this morning it started to Incirlik" Air Base in southeastern Turkey, said Peter Woodmansee, head of the Command U.S. missile defense for Europe, told AFP.


"Some aircraft landed very early in the morning with a group of 3-2 personnel predecessor Air Defense Artillery (ADA), the Patriot unit, has come to them."


U.S. military personnel and equipment began arriving on Friday at Incirlik to support NATO Patriot units stationed at the request of Ankara.


The United States will send about 400 soldiers to Turkey next few days in order to operate two units of Patriot, said the U.S. Command for Europe, located in Stuttgart, Germany in a statement on Friday.


U.S. troops will be based in Gaziantep, 50 km north of the border country.
