U.S. Soldiers Killed As Save Doctor Kidnapped in Afghanistan

A soldier in the United States (U.S.) was killed while serving in Afghanistan. This soldier died while rescuing a kidnapped U.S. citizen Taliban militants.

"Our special teams in Afghanistan managed to rescue a U.S. citizen on a mission with courage, skill and demonstrated exceptional patriotism of our soldiers every day," the White House said in a statement the U.S. as reported by Reuters on Monday (10/12/2012).

"But tragically, we lost a member of a special team in this mission. Entire thoughts and prayers are focused on the family, as we always appreciate our troops and the U.S. military family," remarked.

The rescue operation that was held on Sunday (9/12) yesterday, managed to rescue a U.S. citizen doctor, namely Dr. Dilip Joseph. According to NATO information, Joseph abducted since Wednesday (5/12) local time in the Sarobi district, Kabul.

But unfortunately, a U.S. soldier was killed in the rescue mission. Not further described how U.S. soldiers are killed. It is not known whether there are also other U.S. soldiers were wounded in the mission.

Separately, the commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, General John Allen explains, the rescue mission was carried out after intelligence told him that the doctor Joseph in danger. U.S. Department of Defense also praised the bravery of U.S. troops in the mission.

"The task force deployed in the mission knew they risked their lives to save a fellow countryman from the clutches of the enemy. They even the safety of U.S. citizens other than her own safety, as do our brave soldiers every day and every night," said U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panneta in a statement.
