Weapons Stolen from Australian Navy Ships

An intruder stole a ship naval arsenals Australia on Friday after peronel powerful military on guard, the defense ministry said, in a major security breach.


Australian Department of Defence said the intruder was "overwhelming a member of the task was on patrol boats" moored at HMAS Coonawarra, a naval base in the northern city of Darwin.


"The intruders beat the three members of the task, access the ships armory and issued a number of weapons," he said in a statement, without specifying what weapons drawn.


"The man then drove the vessel that contains the weapons."


Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the crew members were tied in the attack, which occurred at the Larrakeyah Naval Base is now locked.


"Police received a report before 01:00 am, members of the Defense that had been attacked and armory have been stolen from a naval patrol boat moored at the naval base," said Northern Regional Police Commander, Richard Bryson.


"Police have locked the base with all existing vehicle, while doing a search," he added in the Northern Territory News.


The incident is being investigated by the Northern Territory police and Australian Federal Police in relation to Defence personnel.


Tropical Darwin is the main route for the defense of Australia, by rotating U.S. Marines based at a barracks on the outskirts of tewrsebut, since April this year, when Washington looks to expand its presence in Asia.
